FAQ


Can I stay with my child?

Children will be supervised and escorted by adults at all times. Parents and family members are not permitted to escort their daughters.


Can my child be with her friend/sister/cousin?

We cannot guarantee that your child will be placed with a certain person or group.


Can my son attend?

Girls' Science & Engineering Day is for girls in the third, fourth and fifth grades only.


Can my child leave early? Come late?

Girls will not be allowed to come and go during the day, join the program in progress, and/or leave early. Please do not bring your child if she cannot stay for the entire day.

To ensure the safety and security of all the attendees, we are unable to have girls leave early or come late.


Can I volunteer for my child's group?

You are welcome to volunteer to help but you will not be placed with your child's group.

Can I volunteer?

Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. All volunteers must
pre-register on our Volunteer Registration page. Volunteers are needed in several areas such as set-up, registration and take-down.


What food will be provided?

A sack lunch consisting of a sunflower butter (an allergen free plant product) and grape jelly sandwich on whole grain bread, fruit cup, chips and water will be provided.  Each girl will also receive a  non-peanut granola bar, animal crackers, fruit snacks and raisins for snack.  Specific food preferences cannot be accommodated, however, if your child has a serious food allergy, please let us know.


When is check in?

Check in is between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3.


Where and when can I drop off / pick up by child?

Drop off your child between 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the Shelby Center for Science and Technology (building SST #20 on the campus map).  The most easily accessed parking is at the Intermodal Parking Facility (building IMF #18 on the campus map) and walking across the greenway to the Shelby Center for Science and Technology.  You can pick up your child in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology at 2:00 p.m.

Where should I park?

Park in the Intermodal Parking Facility (building IMF #18 on the campus map) and use the sidewalk that exits the west side, lower level of the garage to make the short walk to the Shelby Center for Science and Technology.  .

What should my child wear?

Girls should wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes. A jacket or sweater is recommended as some activities are outside.


What should my child bring / not bring?

Children should not bring cameras, backpacks, purses, cell phones, sunglasses, and other valuables. We are not responsible for lost or stolen property. Each girl will receive a souvenir goodie bag with room to carry all of the take-home things she accumulates throughout the day.
